Pathways Master Plan
The Wenatchee area constructed the “Apple Capital Loop Trail” (Loop Trail) in 1994. The Loop Trail is approximately 10 miles long and traverses both the east and west banks of the Columbia River, crossing to the north on the Odabashian Bridge and to the south on the Wenatchee Reclamation Bridge and George Sellar Bridge. A two-mile spur follows the Columbia River southeast to Kirby Billingsly Park in Douglas County. In 2015, an additional 6.5-mile extension to the North was constructed in Douglas County, named the Rocky Reach Trail. This extension created a connection between the Wenatchee urban area and Lincoln Rock State Park.
Today, the Apple Capital Loop Trail is the backbone of the Wenatchee Valley urban area bikeway network and is a well-used asset for transportation, economic development, recreation, community health and wellness, and quality of life. The CDTC intends to extend the benefits of the Loop Trail to the growing communities outside the Wenatchee Valley to serve the entire region with a system of comfortable, safe, and equitable nonmotorized Chelan-Douglas Pathways. This master plan provides a blueprint for implementing this vision.
The Chelan-Douglas Pathways Master Plan provides recommendations for four pathway corridors throughout the region to better connect communities with safe walking and biking routes.
The Chelan-Douglas pathway corridors will offer unique, safe connections between communities in Chelan and Douglas Counties. The project builds on the success of the existing Apple Capital Loop Trail, a 10-mile trail along the Columbia River that connects communities in the region to urban areas and parks and has shown how impactful regional trail connections are for the Chelan and Douglas County communities.
