The Governing Board
The mission of the Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council (CDTC) is to enhance the livability and prosperity of the region by working together to advance the transportation needs of its people, places, and industries.
As the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Wenatchee urbanized area, CDTC brings together local and state government agencies to plan for the region’s transportation future. Through collaboration and regional coordination, CDTC works to address transportation challenges and identify solutions that support communities throughout Chelan and Douglas counties.
An important part of that work is determining how federal transportation funding is prioritized for investments in roads, bridges, public transit, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and other transportation improvements. CDTC is one of 12 MPOs serving urbanized areas in Washington State and more than 400 across the United States.
CDTC is governed by a board of elected and appointed public officials representing its member agencies throughout Chelan and Douglas counties. Staff work closely with the Governing Board and a Technical Advisory Committee made up of engineers, planners, and other transportation professionals from member agencies. Together, they help guide regional transportation plans and studies, evaluate transportation needs, and shape recommendations for the future of the region’s transportation system.
The History of CDTC
The Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council (CDTC) was first established as the Wenatchee Valley Transportation Council in 2002 by designation of former Governor Gary Locke to function as the federal Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Wenatchee urbanized area (areas that exceed 50,000 population). CDTC was also designated as the Regional Transportation Planning Organization to carry out transportation planning responsibilities defined by state law in the Growth Management Act.
2002 MPO Designation LetterIn 2014, CDTC merged its federal and state planning functions into a unified boundary designated by Governor Jay Inslee, that encompasses Chelan and Douglas counties as a unified region. In 2015, the organization changed its name to Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council.
