Our Mission

The mission of the Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council is to enhance the livability and prosperity of the region by working together to advance the transportation needs of its people, places and industries.

About the Council

The Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council (CDTC) is a type of public agency known as a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). There are 13 MPOs serving urbanized regions across Washington State and 420 in the United States.

CDTC brings together representatives from local and state government agencies to plan for the future by collaborating on solutions to transportation challenges facing the Wenatchee Valley and communities of Chelan and Douglas counties. Under federal law, CDTC is also responsible for prioritizing the expenditure of federal transportation dollars on roads, bridges, public transit, bikeways, and other types of transportation improvements in Chelan and Douglas counties.

CDTC is governed by its members who serve on a board of directors comprised of elected and appointed public officials throughout Chelan and Douglas counties. CDTC also has staff members who work closely with a Technical Advisory Committee comprised of engineers and planners from member agency organizations who guide transportation plans and studies and provide advice to the governing board.

History

The Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council (CDTC) was first established as the Wenatchee Valley Transportation Council in 2003 by designation of former Governor Gary Locke to function as the federal Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Wenatchee urbanized area (areas that exceed 50,000 population). CDTC was also designated as the Regional Transportation Planning Organization to carry out transportation planning responsibilities defined by state law in the Growth Management Act.

In 2014, CDTC merged its federal and state planning functions into a unified boundary designated by Governor Jay Inslee, that encompasses Chelan and Douglas counties as a unified region. In 2015, the organization changed its name to Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council.
